You Have an Unpaid Toll!

A text claims you owe a small highway toll and must pay immediately to avoid fines or registration penalties.

Protect yourself

Don't tap the payment link. Verify charges directly with the tolling agency.

How it works

A text claims you owe a small highway toll and must pay immediately to avoid fines or registration penalties.

The amount is tiny on purpose. The link captures your card number, and the card is drained later. The texts go out to everyone in an area code, whether or not they drive toll roads.

Red flags

  • A toll notice for a road you haven't driven
  • A link with the agency name but a strange domain ending
  • A balance under $20 with a threatened fine over $50

If it already happened

If you already tapped the link and entered card or login details: call your bank from the number on your card, and change the password anywhere you used it. If you replied, expect more messages; block the number and delete the thread. Forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM) so your carrier can act on them.

Where OpenEFA fits

Texts never pass through a mail gateway. Treat every unexpected payment link on your phone the way you'd treat one in email: open the official app instead.
